Rainbow Swiss Chard Newly Planted Greens
Amwalk Farm greens harvesting underway May 2010. Cutting starts at 6:30 AM on Wednesdays and Thursdays. We process an average of 250 pounds of leafy greens every week, triple washing in 50 degree well water, spinning in 5 gallon tubs, and then drying in the "greens machine" designed and built by us. Our seed comes from Johnny's Selected Seeds in Albion, Maine and is organic. We use specialized tools from Johnny's, including the drill-powered tilther designed by Eliot Coleman as well as the six-row seeder for planting seed in the 100' long rows. It takes less than 5 minutes to plant a single 100' row once it has been properly prepared.
